Title: Photoelastic residual stress measurement in glass articles as a problem of hybrid mechanics. 10 p.
Language: English
ABSTRACT. For complete determination of complicated stress fields is
often reasonable to use hybrid mechanics, i.e. a combination of
experimental and analytical-numerical methods. Investigating residual
stresses hybrid mechanics has certain peculiarities due to lack of
information about the origin of the residual stresses. Two hybrid
techniques have been developed for complete determination of residual
stresses in glass articles, one for articles of axisymmetric shape,
and the other for optical fiber preforms of arbitrary cross section.
Experimental measurements are carried out using integrated photoelasticity.
Stresses are completely determined using equations of thermoelasticity.
Application of the techniques is illustrated by practical examples.
